The Labour Party has held on to the London Assembly seat for Brent and Harrow.

Navin Shah was named as winner following a delayed count at Alexandra Palace tonight after two batches of votes had to be reprocessed.

The Greater London Authority said the batches went to storage without some ballot papers being manually entered.

Manual entry is required when a scanner cannot read a ballot paper for reasons such as a damaged paper.

The count was the final one to be announced in the capital and Mr Shah, who won for the second time following his previous victory in 2008, beat Sachin Rajput of the Conservatives into second place.
