The Mayor of London has urged small businesses in the capital to take advantage of their special expertise following London 2012 to sell services to the recently-announced Games host city Tokyo.
In a rallying cry to London’s industry, Boris Johnson said the capital was “synonymous around the world with outstanding innovation and expertise”.
“Our small businesses provide the foundation of that reputation and my team are determined to provide the assistance that will help them trade on the international stage,” he said.
“Every contract they sign and every Peso, Rand, Yen or Euro they win will help drive regeneration, create new jobs and spur growth in London.”
The announcement that the Japanese capital narrowly pipped rivals Istanbul and Madrid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020 was made by the International Olympic Committee on Saturday, with the Mayor of London almost immediately sending his “huge congratulations” to the city.
Today’s call-to-action comes as Mr Johnson prepares to speak before a conference of small businesses at Canary Wharf.
Later this week a small group of technology companies from the capital will head to Brazil on a mission to explore the commercial opportunities and potential business available for them in Rio, Campinas and Sao Paolo.
