Actress Joanna Lumley thought cake from an East End city farm was “absolutely fabulous.”

Michelin starred chef Raymond Blanc with staff at The Strawbale Tea Hut

The produce from The Strawbale Tea Hut, normally based at Spitalfields City Farm’s Sunday market, also got the thumps up from French celebrity chef Raymond Blanc, at the Guild Hall last week.

The farm was taking part in the launch of The City of London’s £2million grants programme, Growing Localities, to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The programme aimed at promoting the use of green spaces and encouraging people to grow their own food through community involvement and volunteering was launched by the Absolutely Fabulous TV sitcom star and the Michelin starred chef.

Alia Sulaiman, who runs the The Strawbale Tea Hut at the farm’s Eco-Chic Sunday market, served up her wild elderflower and lemon Drizzle cake for the two celebrities while Mr Blanc also inspected the fresh farm produce at the farm’s stall.

The Eco Chic market also sells recycled furniture and clothes, vintage fashions, jewellery, and arts and crafts.
