Sixth form students at a school in Bow got tips on how to turn a failing business around

during workshops with a Canary Wharf business.

Five pupils from St Paul’s Way Trust School took on the roles of management consultants during pilot workshops last week.

At the Canary Wharf offices of the management consultancy arm of KPMG they were offered tips on how to make an impact on clients and deliver good presentations.

Students were then given case studies for a failing pub and restaurant and asked to identify the main problems and put forward their recommendations.

Some of the ideas presented included stocking more of the best-selling premium beer, ordering smaller quantities of less popular drinks, themed evenings, making the pub available for private hire during quiet times, changing suppliers to improve consistency of delivery and employing extra staff at busy periods.

The workshops were a first step in extending Tower Hamlets Passport to Employability Programme to make it suitable for post-16 students.
