Already rejected by a number of locations, the Alton Towers Resort's Nemesis Sub-Terra egg was forced into eggs-ile when men in protective biohazard suits escorted it off London's Carnaby Street

A giant egg promoting Alton Towers Resort’s new attraction has received a backlash for being “too scary” after going on display in London’s Faberge Big Egg Hunt.

The egg was created as part of the launch of the Nemesis Sub-Terra ride at the Staffordshire theme park.

Around 200 large decorated eggs, many designed by leading artists and celebrities, have been scattered around the capital in hidden locations.

The challenge is to spot as many of them as you can, but you may have difficulty finding the Alton Towers egg as it has been rejected by a number of sites and has yet to find a permanent home during the hunt.

The Nemesis Sub-Terra egg – based on an alien theme – was removed from Carnaby Street in the West End on Friday after it was deemed too distressing to be homed in one of the capital’s tourist hotspots.

Katherine Duckworth, spokeswoman for Alton Towers Resort, said: “The other eggs are all so beautiful and eye-catching, but that’s resulted in this nightmare of our ugly egg becoming excluded.

“Several of the locations called us at the last minute to say that our Nemesis Sub-Terra egg was just too repulsive for their area, even if it was hidden!

“Our egg was always supposed to be scary to represent the theme of the new attraction, but we never expected this kind of backlash.”
