A life-long coffee roaster has started selling one of the world’s most expensive coffee beans in espresso shots in Crouch End.

Feyzan Ulker, owner of My Kind Of Coffee in Topsfield Parade, Tottenham Lane, started selling Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee last weekend and is one of only a few retailers in London to stock it - giving Crouch End’s competitive cafe scene a shot in the arm.
The beans, grown in the Caribbean island’s Blue Mountains, have developed a reputation over the years which has made them one of the most expensive and sought-after in the world.
Mr Ulker described the brand as the “perfection of coffee”, explaining that the “perfect espresso” normally requires a blend of different coffee beans - but Jamaica Blue Mountain already has every element you need.
He said: “You don’t have to mix it with anything - as a single-origin espresso it has perfect balance.”
As well as the cafe, which opened in August last year, Mr Ulker runs a supply warehouse in Bounds Green where he roasts coffee beans to be sold at various hotels, restaurants and cafes.
The 38-year-old, who heralds from generations of coffee roasters in his native Turkey, insists My Kind Of Coffee is one of only a handful of coffee shops in London to actually roast its beans on-site.
He insists that roasting the Jamaica Blue Mountain beans in-house allows the shop to sell the costly product at a knock-down price to Crouch End coffee aficionados.
Visitors to Mr Ulker’s shop can get their hands on an espresso for £3 and a cappuccino or latte for a modest £4.
“It’s a coffee-lover’s coffee, to be had once in a while,” Mr Ulker added. “It’s not for every day.”
