Chingford is the luckiest place in Britain when it comes to football betting, according to research by a leading bookmaker.
The London suburb saw the highest return on football accumulators last season, with punters racking up wins of more than half a million pounds.
Ladbrokes totted up all the bets that returned winnings of more than £5,000 for each area, and Chingford’s winnings were more than double the total for Glasgow, which was found to be the second luckiest place.
Alex Donohuie from the bookies said: “There must be something in the water in Chingford. Football fans there clearly have the magic touch when it comes to landing huge wins.”
Liverpool came third in the list, where close to quarter of a million was won, while the tiny Welsh town of Tylorstown in the Rhondda Valley saw £200,000 paid out.
Amazingly, more money was paid out for successful accumulator bets in the village of 4,000 people than the entire West End of London.
Both Camden and the City of London also featured in Ladbrokes top 20 areas, who said to date the record amount paid out for a football accumulator, in relation to stake, is £272,529.60 for a £2.50 bet in Berkshire in January 2011.
