Pupils from more than 20 schools gathered for a special award ceremony rewarding their efforts in making the borough more attractive to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The Bexley in Bloom school competition handed out certificates at the Civic Offices, Bexleyheath last week, including gongs for a number of floral categories.

Upton Primary School, Iris Avenue, Bexley scooped the Serco trophy for ‘Best Queen’s Jubilee’ display - handed to them by deputy mayor of Bexley, Cllr Brian Beckwith.

He said: “There were many high standard entries and it was difficult to choose. With the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year the decorations were very patriotic.”

The ‘Best Garden’ award went to Hook Lane Primary School, Faraday Road, Welling, and Dulverton Primary School, Dulverton Road, New Eltham earned ‘Best Hanging Basket’ - both schools received £30 gift vouchers.
