Destination Star Trek London at the ExCeL saw 1,084 fans of the sci-fi series gather in official costumes.

Fans from across the country arrived to fill the main stage of the first Star Trek convention to the UK in over a decade. Dressed from head to toe as their favourite characters, Trekkies queued to officially register for the attempt.

Filling the concourse of the ExCeL, adjudicators recorded details of each individual, and entrants were counted into the main stage hall for the official record breaking photo.

The new world record, broken last night, beats the previous record of 1,040 fans together, which was achieved at the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention which took place in June 2011 where fans descended on the Las Vegas Rio Suites Hotel in Las Vegas, USA.

The final record breaking figure will be submitted to the Guinness World Record adjudicators later this week for official confirmation of the record breaking attempt.

Destination Star Trek London is the first official Star Trek live event in the UK in 10 years, and saw all five legendary captains - William Shatner (Captain Kirk), Sir Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard), Avery Brooks (Captain Sisko), Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) and Scott Bakula (Captain Archer) - brought together for the first time in Europe.
