See The Shard skyscraper rise up from the ground of London to almost pierce the heavens with its sharp point.
Whether the 330 metre high glass spike does “fit in” with its environment - as claimed by Irvine Sellar of developer; Sellar Property, is up for discussion.
But what is beyond doubt is its construction over 12 years has been a terrific feat of engineering.
London Bridge in the heart of cramped central London must be one of the more challenging places in which to throw up Europe’s tallest building.
