A keen Tottenham gardener is among those shortlisted for a prestigious volunteering award.
Yusef Atesogullari, who lives in Sycamore Gardens off the High Road, Tottenham, has been shortlisted for the work he does with his neighbourhood Food Growers Club in the Mayor of London’s Team London awards.
The awards aim to celebrate the positive effect volunteering can have and recognise the unsung heroes who give up their time to help others.
The 62-year-old is one of 24 individuals, 12 organisations and 12 teams nominated in four different categories – each of which has four possible prizes.
Mr Atesogullari will find out whether he has won in the Cleaning and Greening London category at a special ceremony next Thursday at City Hall.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “The many sincere nominations we received are real proof of the enormous impact volunteering can have on the lives of others.
“It is evident that Londoners have huge hearts and have done a great deal for our fabulous city by giving up their time and skills to help others.
“I hope our shortlist will be a real inspiration to those who are considering signing up for volunteering opportunities through Team London.”
