Tottenham woman Kersha Bailey who will perform at Radio One's Hackney Weekend on Sunday

Tottenham songstress Kersha Bailey will be catapulted into the spotlight on Sunday when she performs at Radio One’s Hackney Weekend Festival.

Bailey’s rise to fame has seen her play at Ronnie Scott’s and the Hackney Empire, but this weekend’s audience - where up to 100,000 revellers are expected - will be her biggest yet.

Her jazz-infused indie soul style is sure to mesmerise festival-goers, who will enjoy her captivating voice accompanied by a symphony of horns, guitars, percussion and backing vocalists.

The 24-year-old singer song-writer, self-taught guitarist and former pupil of Northumberland Park School, is bowled over by the prospect of appearing at the festival, describing it as a dream come true.

She said: “I would love to get a record deal as a result, but I would only sign with someone who really understands my music and wants to develop it.”

The last year has been busy for Kersha, with plenty of gigs and the release of her debut album, Beyond the Stars, in March.

The singer, who lives off Northumberland Park, draws inspiration for her songs from everyday situations, and her music reflects her experiences of growing up.

She said: “The album is about me finding out who Kersha Bailey is. When I was younger I lacked confidence but now I know who I am.”

A lifelong music devotee, Kersha started song-writing at just 10 years old, influenced strongly by her mum who is also a musician.

Kersha will perform on the BBC Introduces Stage on Sunday. Her album is available on iTunes.
