Clapham Junction railway station open after power cut closure

Clapham Junction railway station is open again this morning after a power cut forced it to close last night.

Passengers were unable to board or leave trains at the south London station after the electricity failure.

A Network Rail spokesman said a “domestic power outage” at 4.20pm caused lighting and computer systems to stop working.

Passengers were able to use the station as normal until 9.20pm, when the station was closed for safety reasons as it became dark.

London Overground services were suspended between Clapham Junction and Imperial Wharf.

South West Trains said the station reopened shortly after midnight and passengers this morning would be unaffected.

A South West Trains spokesman said: “Clapham Junction station has now reopened and trains are calling there as scheduled.”

Clapham Junction is the busiest station in the UK in terms of rail traffic.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said the electricity failure had not affected the wider area, and the company’s only involvement was to isolate the power supply.
