The bus strike will go ahead

Haringey residents are bracing themselves for travel chaos tomorrow as bus drivers across the capital walk out in a dispute over Olympic bonuses.

Transport for London (TfL) has advised residents to check if their route has been disrupted before they set off on their journeys tomorrow as drivers embark on a one-day strike.

Union members confirmed earlier today they will walk out after bus operators refused to enter into “genuine and meaningful negotiations” over an Olympic award for drivers.

Unite’s regional secretary for London Peter Kavanagh said: “The operators’ and TfL’s collective failure to act decisively to end the dispute means tomorrow’s strike will go ahead. Together the bus companies, TfL and the Olympic Delivery Authority can end this dispute at a stroke if everyone plays their fair part.

“The Olympic Delivery Authority has made money available but now it is up to the bus companies and TfL to step up and play their part. “

Already, the news has caused comment with Crouch Enders, many of whom rely on the buses to get to around.
