London 2012: Severe delays on Central Line as busiest day of Olympics expected

There are severe delays on the Central Line through Stratford because of a signal failure.

The line is part suspended between Liverpool Street and Leytonstone because of the problem in the Bethnal Green area, and there are severe delays along the rest of the line.

The problems come on what is expected to be the busiest day of the Olympic Games so far.

Events will today begin in the Olympic Stadium, and around 200,000 spectators and accredited workers are expected to travel to the Park in Stratford.

Transport for London (TfL) has warned people that the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), Jubilee and Central lines will be busier in the morning, particularly in the morning, evening and late evening peaks.

London Underground tickets are being accepted on Greater Anglia, First Great Western and on buses while the Central Line is partly out of action.

Today’s increase in spectators has also led to restrictions on accessibility into Westfield Stratford City to cope with the volume of people making their way to the Olympic Park.

From 10.30am to 5pm today and Saturday the shopping centre will only be open to accredited workers, Games ticket holders, and people picking up their passes or using hospitality venues.
