London’s largest minicab company has suspended one of its drivers over allegations he refused to take two passengers because they were gay.
Addison Lee put out a statement this morning saying it ‘does not tolerate any form of discrimination’, and is investigating the incident.
A user on Twitter said last night they had ‘just been ejected from an @AddisonLeeCabs for being gay’.
He said he and his boyfriend had got into the cab outside the nightclub G-A-Y.
He tweeted: “Started holding hands and were told to get out, and called dirty.”
In reply to the user the private hire firm asked the man to get in contact and said: “Sorry to hear about your experience - not what we expect from our drivers. We are interviewing the driver concerned shortly.”
The statement from Addison Lee said: “We are aware of an incident involving an Addison Lee vehicle in London last night.
“This incident is being investigated thoroughly, and the driver has been suspended from duty while the investigation takes place.
“We are also in contact with the customer to understand more about what happened.
“Addison Lee does not tolerate any form of discrimination. We pride ourselves in delivering the highest possible level of professional service, and we take matters like this very seriously.”
