The Emirates Airline cable car service across the Thames went into operation this week, giving Londoners a new form of transport and providing some magnificent views of the city.

The crossing connects Greenwich Peninsula with the Royal Docks in east London, and the 34 cars have the capacity to carry 2,500 passengers per hour in each direction.
