London has been turned into a battlefield after an invasion of tanks.

The tanks have pased by many of London's famous landmarks

There is no need to panic though. It’s not an attack by a foreign power and it’s not a new heavy-handed tactic to remove protesters from St Paul’s.

Instead these tanks have been here to help Londoners battling rush-hour traffic.

Tanksis have become the capital’s newest form of transport, with a team of 16-tonne Abbot tanks rolling into town this week to carry lucky commuters to work.

Asking for no fares, the tanks have fought their way through the usual traffic chaos in the jammed-up streets around famous London landmarks including Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Westminster, and even Buckingham Palace.

Really, it was all just a publicity stunt to promote the new video game Battlefield 3 which was released this week for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

However, these monster vehicles still provided some food for thought. Maybe going by tank is the best way to beat London’s congestion, crushing any enemies that get in the way.

Tom Goldberger, from Battlefield 3 publisher Electronic Arts, said: “Tanksis have been brought to the capital to make the urban battlefield that is London’s roads more of a joy than the daily chore they currently are.”
