Police said the object was discovered around 9.30am, and London Fire Brigade confirmed they had sent one fire engine and one fire rescue unit to the east London terminus.

The station area, along with Selbourne Road and a section of Hoe Street was cordoned off by officers, but a spokesman for the Met said

its operation was now over and the scene had been cleared.
