Stricken Oxford rower Dr Alex Woods received the “best possible medical care” following his collapse at the end of the River Thames boat race against rival’s Cambridge – labelled the “most dramatic in history.”
Goodwill messages were sent to The 27-year-old medical student, who has studied at Pembroke College for seven years.
A statement by the Boat Race Company Limited (BRCL) website, which organised the event, said: “At this time, BRCL’s concern is for Alex’s well-being. Alex’s family are with him and he is receiving the best possible medical care.”
The President of Oxford University Boat Club offered thanks for all the messages of support sent to Mr Woods – who lay unconscious at the rear of the boat of minutes before getting aid.
Karl Hudspith said Mr Woods was conscious and would “hopefully be okay.”
“I’m proud of everyone in the team and how they rowed. They were a credit to themselves and their university,” he said.
