The bodies of a man and a woman were discovered after the blaze ripped through a property in Fallow Court Avenue just after 6am today.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, a male and a female.

“Inquiries continue and the fire is being treated as unexplained.”

Six fire engines and around 35 firefighters were called to the semi-detached house. Crews found the woman’s body in the kitchen and the man in a first-floor bedroom.

London Fire Brigade said the blaze destroyed large parts of the house, affecting around three-quarters of the ground floor, half of the first floor, the staircase and roof.

It took firefighters around two hours to extinguish the flames.

A spokesman said: “The brigade was called at 6.06am and the fire was under control by 8.09am.

“Crews from Finchley, Southgate, Barnet and Hornsey fire stations were at the scene.”
