St Joseph’s Junior School given Bronze School Mark Award by pro cycling charity Sustrans

A Wembley school has become the first in the borough to be awarded a special prize by a national cycling charity.

St Joseph’s Junior School, in Chatsworth Avenue, have been awarded the Bronze School Mark Award as recognition for their commitment to encouraging cycling.

The school received a bronze plaque commemorating the achievement and were also handed a scooter parking pod.

The award, set up by pro cycling charity Sustrans, was presented by Navin Shah AM, London assembly member for Brent and Harrow, and Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council during a special ceremony, last Friday, June 15.

In addition, pupils also gave their bikes an arty makeover for the ‘Bling your Bike’ competition, a scheme run by the school to encourage pupils to give their bikes creative designs.

Sustrans’ Bike It Officer for Brent, Ruth Chiat, praised the school.

She said: “It is fantastic to see St Joseph’s Junior School doing so much to support cycling.

“The school has put a lot of effort into encouraging cycling to school and taken every opportunity to run cycling activities which are good for students’ health, confidence, independence and environment.”

The school are one of 12 nationwide to have completed their first year as a Sustrans ‘Bike It’ school.
