Youngsters determined to finish off their play area with a zip wire, ran laps around the park to raise money it.

About 40 fundraisers completed a sponsored run around Barnard Park, Cophenhagen Street, Islington, in a bid to generate the £700 needed. Cake stalls were also set up to add more cash.

Play worker Maureen Sidoli said: “We have just got a new playground and the children really wanted this zip wire as they said it would make it complete.

“It was raining in the morning so we thought we were going to be doing it in the wet, but then the sun shone and it was just fantastic.

“There was a great atmosphere and all the children were really excited to do their three laps.”
