Stars shine in support of Capital kids
Archant London in association with Gold Radio celebrated its 3rd annual charity Press Ball, on Saturday 15th November 2008; in aid of Help a London Child (HALC) which supports work to improve the lives of disadvantaged children in the capital.
The prestigious event was attended by an array of celebrity guests and industry figures, showing their support and generosity to make a difference for those in need.
Enzo Testa, Executive Managing Director of Archant London said "The evening was a huge success and we received excellent feedback from those who attended. Despite the credit crunch, the 'money can't buy' auction items and the raffle prizes enabled us to raise significant funds for this extremely worthwhile cause."
The memorable event was attended by over 300 guests, including model Caprice and former Eastenders and Strictly Come Dancing star, Jesse Wallace. Also present was Sir Alan Sugars 2007 Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry and Cheryl Baker of Bucks Fizz fame, who were treated to live performances by 80’s pop legends the Blow Monkeys, Still Drifting featuring Ray Lewis who belted out hits from the 60’s, as well as Kenny Thomas and Junior.
Host, Gold Radio DJ James Cannon, was a great success; fueling a fun filled night which included a grand raffle with prizes such as tickets to see Tina Turner in concert. Auctioneer, David ‘Kid’ Jensen pushed for the highest sale as celebrities and guests competed during the main auction!
Auction lots included a romantic break in Budapest, 5 nights for two in Fujairah, a ladies pamper session, a weekend in Monte Carlo, six VIP passes skating in a Winter Wonderland, 5 Star holiday in Mexico, a luxury break in St Lucia, a ‘film fanatic treat’; and a surprise auction lot, which was 2 tickets to the Capital Radio Jingle Bell Ball at the O2 arena in December.

The Charity
Gold Radio’s Help a London Child improves the lives of thousands of vulnerable children living in our capital city. London is not only one of the wealthiest cities in the world, but it is also home to children suffering from abuse, poverty, homelessness, disability, and illness. Help a London Child specialises in funding grass roots projects and supporting their work to improve the lives of these children.
In the last 30 years over 10,000 grants have been awarded to children’s and young people’s projects in every London borough.
With 1 in 2 children in inner London living in poverty, the need for the service is great. Help a London Child needs to raise over £1 million to continue the work it does and relies completely on donations and events such as the Archant Ball to achieve this.
