Transfer news: Pim Balkestein has joined AFC Wimbledon on loan
AFC Wimbledon have completed the signing of Brentford defender Pim Balkestein on a one-month loan deal.
The 24-year-old will go into Terry Brown’s squad for tomorrow’s game with Dagenham & Redbridge.
“This is the last-chance saloon for getting a centre-back in,” manager Terry Brown said.
“I have been reluctant to get more signings in because I wanted to stick by the boys that had got us here.
“But I wanted a big, powerful centre-back who wins headers and Pim fits the bill.
“I have done a lot of groundwork on him and had him watched.
“I have also spoken to people at Brentford and the then Rochdale manager Steve Ayre from when Pim was on loan there.
“Everyone I spoke to said that we should go and get him. He is a Dutchman who can also play a bit, but we have brought him in for his other attributes, and hopefully he will provide a strong presence at the back.”
The Dutchman spent the first half of this season on loan at Rochdale.
