The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for the 31-year-old, who has struggled to hold down a place in Barcelona’s starting XI this season.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen to bolster his attacking options in the January transfer window but Rosell insists Villa has an important role to play at Barcelona this season.

“I absolutely reject the notion that David Villa could leave Barcelona this winter,” said Rosell.

“David is one of our players and we need him in the second half of the season.”
