Ray Parlour believes that the Frenchman playing Andrey Arshavin out of position contributed to his poor form
Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has pointed the finger at Arsene Wenger over Andrey Arshavin’s poor form for the Gunners.
The 31-year-old was on song for Russia on Friday as they beat Czech Republic 4-1 at Euro 2012 but had suffered a torrid time at the Emirates this season and the former midfielder believes that Wenger played Arshavin out of position.
“You could say that he was played in the wrong position at Arsenal,” Parlour told talkSPORT.
“Arsene Wenger’s always played him on the left hand side and he’s more of a central player.
“I’m sure Arsene will be watching and wondering why he couldn’t do that for Arsenal. He never played like that which is frustrating for the fans, Arsene Wenger and the players.”
Arshavin is likely to leave Arsenal this summer after a successful loan spell at Zenit St Petersburg and Parlour admits his future is unclear.
“Let’s see what happens with him,” he said. “I’m not sure whether he’ll go back to Arsenal or they’ll try and sell him.”
