Arsenal star Thomas Vermaelen is desperate to reach the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after missing out on Euro 2012.

With a host of high profile stars in their squad, the Belgians are one of the favourites from Europe to qualify and the defender is desperate for success.

“It would be a dream and an honour to go to the 2014 World Cup, but we know there is so much for us to do before we can think about that,” Vermaelen told the Arsenal website.

“I have never been fortunate enough to play in a major tournament and the same is true for everyone in our squad.

“As I am getting older, it would be nice if this could happen now and we have a great chance. I feel the time is right to go through.”
