Arsenal have confirmed that they are investigating reports that Cheikh Titote was racially abused by a fan during Monday night's game between the Gunners and Newcastle United at the Emirates.

The north Londoners won the match 2-1 thanks to a last minute goal from Thomas Vermaelen, but in the 68th minute the club have said that Sky Sports picked up pictures of a fan pointing at the midfielder and mouthing something inappropriate.

"The club take a zero-tolerance [approach] towards events of this nature and will be investigating the incident," an Arsenal representative said.
