Transfer news: Niall Quinn doubts Arsenal will smash their wage structure to keep Robin van Persie
Former Gunner Niall Quinn doubts Arsenal will smash their wage structure to keep Man City, Man Utd and Juventus target Robin van Persie at the Emirates.
Arsenal are currently receiving offers for their unsettled Dutch captain, and Quinn, who played for Arsenal between 1983 and 1990, has backed Arsenal’s refusal to give in to his demands.
“If you put the club first generally you’ll come up with the right formula and I think Arsenal will do that,” Quinn told Talk Sport.
“If Van Persie falls into line with that and accepts that and understands his future here at the club, great. If he doesn’t then as a football fan you’ve got to say it wasn’t meant to be.
“I have great faith that Arsenal will do the right thing,” he added, before predicting that the 28-year-old Dutchman would still be an Arsenal player next season.
“I think he will be here [this season] and there will be loads of time for him to be worked on to fall back into the Arsenal way.”
