Arsenal have announced the signing of Spain international Santi Cazorla from Malaga for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old midfielder joins the club on a long-term contract and has travelled with his new teammates for their pre-season training camp in Germany.

Cazorla, who can play out wide or centrally, has 45 caps for Spain and was part of their European Championship-winning squads in 2008 and 2012.

He was the driving force behind Malaga’s fourth-place finish in La Liga last season, scoring nine goals in 34 league appearances.

“I’m so happy to be joining Arsenal. This is a club with great players, a fantastic stadium and huge support,” Cazorla told Arsenal’s official website.

“The club has one of the best managers in football and their style of play is recognised and admired all over the world.

“I’m so excited to be joining one of the greatest teams in Europe and also in the Premier League. I will do my best to help Arsenal challenge for trophies and make all the supporters happy.”

The Spaniard becomes Arsenal’s third major signing of the summer, after Lukas Podolski from Cologne and Olivier Giroud from Montpellier.
