Ottmar Hitzfeld says Johan Djorou should quit the Gunners if he wants to start more games for Switzerland

Switzerland boss Ottmar Hitzfeld has urged Arsenal centre-half Johan Djourou to quit the club so he can play more first team football.

The 25-year-old has slipped behind Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny in the pecking order and with Per Mertseacker to return from injury for the start of next season, Djourou could find himself fourth choice.

The centre-half was replaced in the Switzerland starting XI in their 5-3 friendly win over Germany last weekend.

And Hitzfeld says Djourou must play more if he wants to be a starter for the national side.

"For Djourou, the question arises of a transfer," Hitzfeld told RTS Sport.

"If he wants to be selected, he must have some game time in the club. This is not the case at Arsenal."
