Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Steve Bould will be his assistant next season following the departure of Pat Rice.

Bould, who made 372 appearances for the club, will be promoted from his current role as youth team coach.

Wenger said: “I always want to give a chance to people who know how we coach.

“Steve is a very good coach and brings a continuation of our philosophy.”

Bould was put in charge of the Gunners youth team in 2001, leading them to the 2009 Youth Cup and consecutive FA Academy Premier League titles.

The 49-year-old won three league titles, two FA Cups, a League Cup and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1994 during his time with the Gunners
