There was a large AVR turn out for the inaugural Colyton Rebel multi-terrain runs based at Colyton Grammar School, writes Dave Mutter.
It was an interesting course with both races enduring a tough field climb above Whitwell Farm and the 10k enjoying the gloopy delights of Morganhayes forest. The 10k was won by Michael Robinson of Tamar Trotters in 34:30 with AVR’s Liam Roberts second, 35:15 and Pete Waumsley of Tamar Trotters third, 36:15.

●For Honiton RC Kevin Hawker was the first Honiton runner back, seventh place in 38:42. Steve Davey was 16th in 42:20 and first in his category. Gary Phillips was 21st 43:38, Rod Inglis 23rd in 44:19 John Burgess, race referee, started after everyone else. He timed himself at 48:52 but he didn’t actually start at the proper start but a little way down the road. Jo Davey’s first off-road race saw an impressive 64th place in 52:06. This was a great first time effort for the race with efficient, cheerful marshals and Colyton Grammar PTA excelled with the delicious cakes on the runners’ return. All runners enjoyed themselves and promised to come back again next year.
The 5K variant was run by both Juniors (J) and Seniors (S) and dominated by Honiton RC juniors with Henry Riddle winning in 22:05, Iain Ross 2nd, 24:07 and Jack Elsom 3rd, 25:34. Ethan Day (J) was the first AVR home, 6th in 28:03; Jonny House (J) 7th, 28:59 and Alice Tremlett in her 1st AVR race 9th, 29:14. Congratulations to Caitlin Bee (J) who was 10th and 1st under 16 girl in 29:19. Max Bowskill (J) was 11th, 30.06; Hannah Bramley (J) 12th, 30:27; May Wood (J) 13th, 30:48; Ben Franklin (J) 14th, 30:56; Henley Bailey (S) 16th, 32:00; Laura Bailey (S) 24th, 35:51; Caleb Sinclair (J) 25th, 36.30; Naomi Ellynn (J) 30th, 41.50; Emma Ellyn (S) 32nd, 42:00; Tina Baker (S) 37th, 48.55; Liz Thomas (S) 39th, 49:39 and Harry Moore (S) 41st, 54:25. Arguably the best performance of the day came from John Barrington-Rowell and Graham Newton. Graham escorted blind John all the way around and they completed the whole course in 1:08:51, having a great time en-route. Many thanks to all the AVR’s that helped put on the run and of course to race organiser Adrian Wheeler of Colyton Grammar School Parents’ Association.
