Four members took part in the St Neots Triathlon which consisted of a 750m open water swim, a 25k bike and a 5k run. Louise Rolfe, doing her first triathlon since returning from injury, was first lady home finishing a remarkable 15 minutes ahead of her nearest rival in a time of 1:15:39.

Vincent Legg, also in his first race following a long lay-off, was another who made a successful come-back, finishing an outstanding 9th overall. There were also good performances from Brett Blackwell and Colin Pryor, the former successfully completing his first-ever triathlon.

A team of 10 also tackled the Sprint distance triathlon at Newmarket. This event comprised a 300m swim, 22k bike, and 4k run. The team was cheered on by other non-competing members to some great performances.

WaldenTRI had no less than three age group winners: Nicki Davis, Donna Dale and Pete Thompson. Andy Stoten, Andy Dunlop, Graham Stock, Jayne Nunn, Chloe Brown, Russell Powell and Jeremy Buss all put in great performances, ensuring the club had a very fine day at the Newmarket races.

One more WaldenTRi athlete making a fine return from injury was Fiona Halls. She made her racing comeback after the disappointment of missing out on the London marathon in the Great Baddow 10 mile road race.

Halls finished in 69:37, 8th lady home overall and 5th in her age group. This was an Essex County Championship race so 5th in the County in her comeback race is an excellent result.

Elsewhere, Liam Sheils performed an amazing feat of running endurance in Kent. His race had no finish line, the winner was the athlete who could run the furthest distance in 24 hours.

The race started at 1pm on the Saturday and was done over a 6.55 mile lap. Out of the 35 entrants, Sheils started at the back but gradually made his way to significant milestones: a marathon in 5.15, 50 miles, which was his previous longest ever run, then past the double marathon distance.

Just before mid-day on Sunday Sheils completed his 12th lap, which equated to three marathons back-to-back - 78.6 miles - and a final finishing position of 9th.
