Julia Walkden, a former Sidmouth College student and Exeter Harriers athlete, was amongst the university students who got the chance to compete in the Olympic stadium, as part of the London Prepares series.

Julia was competing in the women’s discus and was inspired to throw a personal best, which won her a silver medal, after competing against 23 athletes in her class at the British Universities and Colleges Sports Championships (BUCS) 2012.

The championships were held at the Olympic Stadium over the bank holiday weekend as part of the London Prepares Series and included athletes from 117 Universities.

Julia was representing the University of West of England (UWE) where she is studying physiotherapy. Julia was ranked fifth at the start of the event based on previous best throws.
