Barnet boss hailed Andy Yiadom and Ben May after the Bees bounced back from going behind to win over crisis club Port Vale.

Marc Roberts gave the Valiants, who went into administration last week, the lead but May, who joined on loan from Stevenage the day before, equalised before Yiadom scored his first league goal to win it, moving the north Londoners five points clear of the relegation zone.

“We deserved it. We had the better chances and I thought we were in charge of the game when we went behind.

“It was a great moment for Andy (Yiadom), but I thought Ben May had as good a debut as you could wish to see.

“We’ve been looking for a big centre-forward for a long time. They are difficult to find because they are a dying breed, but Ben fitted the bill and he was great.

“I’ve got to thank our chairman for working all night to get the deal done and I’m sure it was a surprise for Port Vale to see his name on our teamsheet.

“When we conceded the goal I feared it would deflate the boys, but they deserve great credit for the character and effort they showed to come back and win.

“It’s a terrific three points which gives us a bit of security above the bottom clubs, but there is still a lot of work to do.”
