Reading youngster Michael Hector will remain on loan at Barnet until the end of the season.

In further good news for the Bees fellow central defender Paul Downing for a further month until February 4.

Barnet boss Lawrie Sanchez brought in Hector on loan from Reading and Downing from West Bromwich Albion in the wake of the 6-3 home defeat by Burton Albion on October 29.

The 19-year-old Hector, who has made five starts and one substitute appearance, and 20-year - old Downing, who has played eight games, have helped stabilise the defence and have proved big hits with supporters.

Fellow defender Gary Borrowdale has been impressed with the pair who have earned the nicknames Rio and JT respectively after the England centre back partnership.

“I think Rio and JT have come in and performed well,” he added.

“The manager has also changed a few things around, making us a little more defensive.

“We are getting on the counter attack which has limited the opportunities we are giving away.

“(Our upturn in form) is down to a whole range of things and the confidence of the boys is coming out as well.

“So we go into every game looking to win now instead of maybe holding on to something.”
