Uwe Rösler has difficult call to make over midfielders
Uwe Rösler admitted he has a selection headache ahead of Brentford’s season opener at Walsall in the Capital One Cup on Saturday.
The German was delighted as his Bees side beat newly relegated npower League Two side Wycombe Wanderers 4-1 last night in the final pre-season game.
Clayton Donaldson, Stuart Dallas and Kevin O’Connor all scored for the Griffin Park outfit while there was an own goal apiece, but the battle for the midfield berths impressed the manager most.
Rösler revealed his delight at the developing competition for places between Sam Saunders, Adam Forshaw, Jake Reeves, Toumani Diagouraga and Harry Forrester who have impressed this summer.
“Overall I thought there were some excellent performances and the way we played after the first 10 to 15 minutes was excellent,” he told the club’s official website.
“The players are motivated. Nobody is sulking if they don’t start the game. Established players are coming on and playing very hard and tough to try to force themselves into the starting line-up for the weekend.
“We have Toumani and Adam Forshaw who are very strong candidates for Saturday and the games after but Jake Reeves and Harry Forrester have made a big step during this pre-season.
“Harry was excellent today and it is a very close race between him and Sam Saunders. Both players are in very good form and it is a tough call for me.”
