Brentford boss reflects on draw at Preston

Brentford manager Uwe Rosler felt his side were worthy of a point at Preston North End.

The Bees needed a last minute equaliser from Antonio German to cancel out Scott Laird’s opener just after the hour mark.

“I think in the first half, we were under par,” Rosler said. “They put pressure on us without creating big chances.

“Their chances came from mistakes. They were the better team in the first half. We got on top in the second half.

“They struggled with an extra deep player in the back four. Toumani started to play more and picked up more second balls.

“We pushed them back into their half. The goal came out of nothing.

“We had more dominance on the ball but we weren’t able to create the clear cut chance.

“We came in situations from wide. The number 17 [Jeffrey Monakana] had problems with Jake Bidwell and Shaleum Logan caused problems down the right.

“Our fitness is top draw. We put a lot of crosses in. I brought Antonio on as he was another striker. It was a great great goal.”

The Bees had won 3-1 at Deepdale last year and the German manager felt that the Lilywhites had improved since that game in March.

“Preston was more difficult this year than last year,” he said. “They are fitter this year and compact.

“Any team who comes here will find it difficult to establish themselves.

“It’s a difficult place to go to.”

Rosler felt that his side’s second half performance merited his side grabbing a draw from Lancashire.

“I felt in the first half, Preston deserved to go up,” he added.

“Also through our mistakes, I felt comfortable in the second half. I felt we looked strong and had more of the ball.

“We had more of the running. Some of the players tired out a little bit. Jeffrey Monakana was very good going forward.

“They tried to change it to stop Shaleum Logan going forward. We gained more momentum and we deserved something out of it.”
