Gary Alexander believes the result has kept the Bees in the play-off race

Brentford striker Gary Alexander called on his team-mates to kick on after their 4-0 win over Carlisle last night.

The Bees cruised to victory thanks to goals from Saido Berahino (2), Harlee Dean and Sam Saunders.

“It’s always nice to get a home result but we’ve got to kick on now. The pressure was on us tonight,” Alexander told London24.

“We knew that if we lost against Carlisle it was probably game over for the play-offs but we’re still in the hunt now.”

The 32-year-old was impressed with West Brom loanee Berahino, who grabbed his first goals for the club.

“I saw the second goal as I was getting treated at the time of the first goal,” he added.

“He looks good. He produced two great finishes and full credit to the lad.”

Alexander was taken off for Berahino after half-an-hour and the former Millwall man explained why.

“I just took a whack early on,” he added. “I caught a nerve and it’s a dead leg basically. We’ll see how it is and assess it.”

“We had fit players on the bench (Berahino) and they came on and he did the job.”

Brentford travel to struggling Scunthorpe on Saturday and the medical team will assess whether Alexander is fit to play at Glanford Park.
