Striker Clinton Morrison is still optimistic of helping Brentford to clinch a League One play-off spot following Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Notts County.

The Bees still trail County – who currently hold the coveted sixth place – by three points, while Carlisle and Stevenage, who meet on Tuesday, are also in the frame.

But the Griffin Park club travel to Stevenage in their next fixture and Morrison told london24.com: “We feel there’s certainly a chance if we beat Stevenage.

“No games are easy in this league but we need to pick up maximum points and see where that takes us. Notts County was disappointing because we’ve been scoring goals until recently, but we need to create more chances.

“We pushed and pushed but they were solid and there weren’t a lot of chances, although I think we created the better ones. All in all, it was probably a fair result.”

The former Republic of Ireland international made his third start for the Bees since joining them on loan from Sheffield Wednesday, but has yet to find the net.

And Morrison is especially anxious to change that at Stevenage next week as he must sit out Brentford’s final home game of the season – when promotion-chasing Wednesday will be the visitors.

“Hopefully I can get on the scoresheet next time,” added the 32-year-old frontman. “I’ve only started three games so far because the manager felt I wasn’t fit enough.

“But it’s been going well despite that – this is a good club and the fans have been great. If it doesn’t happen for Brentford this season I think they’ll definitely have a good chance next season.”

Uwe Rosler’s side, who are unbeaten in their last seven games, can still reach 73 points this season if they beat both Stevenage and Wednesday and finish their campaign with victory at Chesterfield.
