Blue Square Bet South: Bromley 1 Farnborough 1 match report

» Bromley once again failed to take maximum points at Hayes Lane on Saturday when Farnborough held them to a draw, although in the end the Lillywhites were fortunate to escape with even a point.

The home side started the game brightly and enjoyed all of the possession in the opening 20 minutes, during which time they should have built up a commanding lead.

They opened the scoring after 15 minutes when winger Albert Jarrett turned two defenders before crossing to Pierre Joseph-Dubois, whose effort thudded into the ground before bouncing up over Farnborough’s goalkeeper Jake Sommerville and into the net.

Shaved

Bromley might have doubled their lead when Michael Malcolm’s header was superbly tipped over by Somerville from Jarrett’s free-kick and seven minute later the same two players combined, but this time Malcolm’s header shaved the crossbar.

As Farnborough came more into the game Phillip Page went close, Marcus Moody had an effort blocked, before Nic Ciadrini’s free-kick was punched out by Joe Welch to the edge of the 18-yard box, where Doug Bergqvist blazed wide.

Bromley should have again extended their lead in the second half when Malcolm slipped the ball inside the full-back for substitute Orlando Smith to run onto, but his shot was blocked.

Farnborough were pushing the hosts further and further back and it was no surprise when they gained a deserved equaliser after 62 minutes from the penalty spot.

Tutu Henriques was adjudged to have handled the ball and Page stepped up to blast the spot-kick straight down the middle.

Static

One minute later, Page galloped through a static defence, only for Welch to bravely save at the striker’s feet.

Bromley knew it was not going to be their day when Smith met Jarrett’s corner kick and his goal-bound shot beat the goalkeeper, but Moses Swaibu, his team-mate, deflected it over the bar.

Farnborough nearly snatched a winner when Michael Charles ran through on goal late on, but Welch did well to palm the substitute’s shot around the post to make it four home draws in a row.

Bromley: Welch, Henriques, Patterson, Fuseini, Swaibu, Harwood, Joseph-Dubois (Smith, 47 mins), Jones, Araba (Thomas, 56 mins), Malcolm, Jarrett. Subs not used: Taylor, Waldren, Williams.

Attendance: 448

The mournful-looking stray which was thought to be putting potential adopters off with her hangdog expression has finally found a home. PRESS ASSOCIATION Photo. Issue date: Wednesday August 27, 2014. Bless was the most long-term resident at Battersea, with staff believing the lack of interest was down to the doleful dog's permanently sad expression. But following publicity, the Shoesmiths leapt at the chance to take the six-year-old in after being drawn to her loving personality and calm, kindly temperament. See PA story ANIMALS Sad.
