The Addicks were 3-0 down going into the final 20 minutes thanks to Jamie Ward’s brace and Craig Bryson’s strike.

However, Danny Green and Yann Kermorgant struck twice in two minutes to set up a grandstand finish and the south Londoners nearly stole a point when Salim Kerkar saw his effort cleared off the line.

“I just addressed the players and said our season has got to be built on that 25 minutes, without a doubt,” Powell said.

“Beforehand we were passive and I didn’t recognise some of the decisions we were making. It wasn’t befitting of a team that I’ve been in charge of. I’ve got to say the last 25 minutes half an hour is what we have got to be like.

“People will put us as underdogs and talk about our lack of Championship knowledge and all that sort of stuff but I know for a fact that those players in my dressing room and at my football club can do our club justice if they perform how they did then,” he added.

“We’ve had some good results this year but we’ve lost our last three and people will be thinking ‘they are going to struggle’. I think if my team perform how they did just then things will turn sooner rather than later.”

The Addicks make the trip to Ipswich on Saturday.
