Kenny Jackett says Millwall have to forget about the departure of Chris Wood and pointed to the amount of chances created in the 1-0 defeat at Cardiff as a cause for positivity.

This was Millwall’s first game without the striker, who scored 11 goals in 19 games during his loan spell with the Lions.

The West Bromwich Albion forward is expected to join Leicester in a £1.25million move when the transfer window reopens on Tuesday.

Cardiff’s Rudy Gestede scored his second goal of the season on his first start of the campaign in the eighth minute, with a close-range finish and that was enough for Bluebirds to record a 12th home win in 13 matches.

But the south Londoners created plenty of chances in Wood’s absence as the opening period wore on.

Darius Henderson headed straight at David Marshall in the 25th minute before forcing the Scotland keeper into a superb diving stop to his left 60 seconds later.

However, the best chance fell to James Henry who was sent clear, but fired horribly wide as Cardiff held firm.

Jackett said: “It was a good performance and the positive was the amount of chances we created. You need to finish those off. But we didn’t go down easy at all.

“We have to get over Chris leaving. The people above me tried very hard to keep him. We are disappointed, but they could not do anymore in our remit.

“He had an opportunity to go to a club geared for the Premier League. Money was one of those things, but it wasn’t solely that.

“I thanked him for his efforts and I wish him well.”
