Queens Park Rangers owner Tony Fernandes has taken to social media site Twitter to explain that the club had listened to disgruntled fans in making the decision to sack manager Mark Hughes.

The Welshman’s tenure came to an end this morning on the eve of Rangers’ trip to Manchester United after a dismal run that has seen the west London club fail to win a single Premier League match this season.

Hughes appeared to have survived the axe despite losing 3-1 at home to fellow strugglers Southampton last weekend, but some supporters had had enough, unveiling banners at Loftus Road calling for Harry Redknapp to take over.

The former Tottenham boss has long been linked with the role and is now the hot favourite to take the hot seat with talks expected to begin shortly.

“Though we have a change the long term vision of the club remains and much good work has already been done and will continue,” Fernandes tweeted.

“This is a club where the chairman and shareholders look at all things in a long term view. But also take the views of the fans who are the most important constituents of the club. To us fans come first.”
