Esteban Granero is happy to concentrate on his QPR career after promising to take a break from his psychology studies.

The midfielder, who was a £9 million signing from Real Madrid in the transfer window, had been enrolled at a university in the Spanish capital.

But the 25-year-old midfielder, who is also a keen student of literature, has interrupted the course in order to focus his attention on QPR.

“I only have one or two years left, but now I’m taking a break. I will start in Madrid again after the break,” he said.

Granero was a product of Real’s youth system but found first team chances hard to come by at the Bernabeu. And he revealed he swapped Madrid for the English capital after being seduced by Mark Hughes’ vision for the club.

“Real were my club since I was eight so of course it was a big change, but it wasn’t that traumatic for me because I was so excited to join QPR,” he said.

“I played for three years for Real. Now I’m more mature, I’ve improved my mind and my football.”

He added: “It wasn’t a hard decision to come here. I’m hungry and here I will be able to grow as a player.

“Real Madrid is a great club, I have played there since I was eight. I spent three years in the first team and I will always be thankful to them.

“But it was time to change and the best way to do that was join QPR.

“Since two weeks ago my thoughts are here and I don’t miss anything about Real.

“I wanted to be a part of QPR. I’m sure the project here will be good for me, and I’ll be good for QPR.

“Everyone at the club trusts me and that’s all I needed. I know I’ve made the right decision.”
