Hammers midfielder Jack Collison grabbed his second goal of the season at Hull City on Saturday and he hopes there is lots more to come

Jack Collison kept his cool at the KC Stadium on Saturday to grab West Ham’s vital second goal against Hull City – now he is plotting a way to become a regular scorer.

The 23-year-old midfielder made it two goals for the campaign with his strike on Saturday and was delighted to find the target once again.

“Obviously goalscoring is something I want to improve,” said the Wales international. “I feel that I can chip in with a lot more goals and help out.

“I’m over the moon with the goal, but I think it was a real team display today.”

Collison has now scored eight in claret and blue, but he still feels that he needs to make more of a contribution.

“The more goals you score the more confident you become,” he said. “As I’ve said before, it is something I want to add to my game.

“I feel I’m improving with every match, I’m still working hard to try and get better.

“The better I do personally is going to be better for the team and hopefully we can kick on and put a gap between us and those below us now.”

Collison’s effort against Blackpool last month took a slight deflection, but this time there was no element of luck.

“I don’t remember too much about it, to be honest,” he said. “I just remember ‘Coley’ nicking the ball and I knew it was going to come to me because he has got that vision.

“He picked me out and I had all the time in the world really to pick my spot and luckily it went in.”

Collison was left out of the squad for the 0-0 draw with Bristol City last Tuesday, but he insists that after an horrendous knee injury that ruled him out for nearly a year, that will happen.

“I don’t want to keep dwelling on the injury, but the manager has been very understanding,” he explained. “There are times when I have to pull out, maybe miss a game or two to have a rest.

“But hopefully when I come in I can do the business. We’ve got to trust the manager and so far it has paid off for us.”

It certainly did on Saturday and the midfielder knew just how important that win was.

“It was massive to try and keep the momentum going,” he said. “We are on a good run now, I think that is four games unbeaten and we are chasing Southampton hard.”
