Gary Cahill says his Chelsea side “never know when we’re beaten” after they snatched a dramatic late winner in their Champions League Group E game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

The defender admitted the Blues had been under siege last night before Victor Moses headed a stoppage time winner to secure a vital 3-2 victory that drew them level on points with the Ukrainian champions at the summit of their pool.

But the west Londoners were second best to a stylish Brazilian-inspired Shakhtar side and only scored twice after gaffes from their keeper to allow Fernando Torres and Oscar in.

One time Chelsea and Tottenham target Willian twice equalised and Cahill admitted he and his attacking team-mates proved a handful.

“At times, there were four, five players up front,” he said.

“They’ve got a lot of pace in the team as well, so I’m glad we don’t play against them every week because they really impressed me.

“It makes the win even sweeter in the last minute of the game. It’s a massive three points for us.”

He added: “We knew leading into the game how big three points would be. The manager stressed that to us.

“We keep pushing and pushing and pushing. We never know when we’re beaten.”

Looking ahead to the penultimate Group E game in Turin, in which victory would seal Chelsea’s qualification, Cahill said: “It’s important we keep our foot on the pedal.”
