Daniel Sturridge is a doubt for London 2012
Chelsea star Daniel Sturridge has picked up viral meningitis after being admitted to hospital in Paddington.
The 22-year-old is part of Stuart Pearce’s Team GB squad but his place at London 2012 is in doubt.
“Daniel has viral meningitis,” Blues manager Roberto Di Matteo said. I spoke to him. He feels better now and we’re going to progress his situation and hopefully he’ll get well as soon as possible.
“I think it’s a question of daily monitoring his health and that’s what matters to everybody. We’ll make a decision with the doctors and see when he can join.
“We have a doctor with him from day one and we are updated on an hourly basis.
“It came to light over the weekend. He started to feel a little bit unwell so was taken to hospital.
“I think it’s difficult to put a time limit on things. The fact he’s feeling better is very positive.
“He’s currently still in hospital.
The GB boss has until July 25 to select a replacement with Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes believed to be on the standby list.
